A guide on the Sri Yantra’s meaning and how to use it in meditation.
The Sri Yantra, often called the “King of all Yantras”, is one of the most powerful and ancient symbols in Vedic and Tantric traditions. It is revered as a sacred geometric form that represents the cosmic creation and unification of divine masculine and feminine energies.
Here’s everything you need to know:
The Sri Yantra: Meaning and Symbolism
1. Structure:
The Sri Yantra consists of nine interlocking triangles arranged in layers:
• Four upward-pointing triangles symbolize the masculine energy (Shiva).
• Five downward-pointing triangles represent the feminine energy (Shakti).
These triangles create 43 smaller triangles, converging at a central point called the Bindu, which represents the origin of all creation and the infinite unity of existence.
The Sri Yantra is enclosed by:
• A lotus of eight petals (symbolizing purity, spiritual unfolding).
• A second lotus of sixteen petals (representing fulfillment and creation).
• An outer square with four gateways (signifying the material world).
2. Spiritual Meaning:
The Sri Yantra symbolizes the journey of spiritual ascent and material fulfillment. It reflects the harmony of opposites - spirit and matter, microcosm and macrocosm. Meditating on it is said to align energy within the body and harmonize with the universe.
3. The Bindu:
At the center lies the Bindu - a point of infinite potential, the unity of pure consciousness. It is the focal point for meditation and symbolizes the primal energy from which everything manifests.
4. Yantra of Goddess Tripura Sundari:
The Sri Yantra is dedicated to Tripura Sundari, the supreme goddess of beauty, love, and divine energy. She is associated with Shri Vidya, a highly revered and secretive Tantric tradition.
